TikTok tests New ‘Nearby’ Feed: Shows Content from users near you

New: TikTok is working on a new ‘Nearby’ Content feed that will display must-sees and recommendations based on your current location
Youngsters now surf through TikTok or Instagram more when they are looking for a good place to eat, or recommendations for places to visit.

Google itself noted that almost 40% of the youngsters would do that.

And so, the platform is adding new and new features to enrich user experience on TikTok.

With that being said, TikTok has recently confirmed that along with the ‘For You’ and ‘Following Tabs’ feed, on the platform, users may soon also get access to the new ‘Nearby’ Content Feed.

The ‘Nearby’ Feed on TikTok will do exactly as its name suggests. It will show content shared by users nearby to where you are right now.  However, it is still in the developmental stage.

This will allow TikTok to share the most relevant content with you, the local updates that you might be interested in.

TechCrunch revealed that – A spokesperson from Twitter has informed them that the new feed is being tested right now, with only some selected users in the Southeast Asia.

As far as the functionality is concerned, TechCrunch added –

“TikTok’s Nearby feed would offer a similar experience, but be paired with the app’s already-successful recommendation algorithm. In theory, the feed should display local content that you actually want to see. For example, if your For You page often displays restaurant recommendations or must-see hiking spots, the Nearby feed should show you videos of restaurants and hiking trails that are near you.”

According to TikTok –

The Nearby Stream could evolve before an official launch or could entirely be eliminated, just like any other test feature.

Well, it will pose great opportunities for advertisers out there, If TikTok keeps that ‘Nearby Feed’ and decides on developing it, marketers can potentially display advertisements on it for their nearby business and service.

Yes, we do know about TikTok’s in-feed advertisements. But, these add-on local advertisements will open wide chances for small businesses to get noticed and connect with viewers who might not have heard about them from elsewhere.

However, currently, it is a little hard to say whether the feed will automatically track the location and display the feed based on it, or if the user has to enter the location tags.

There has no official announcement been made yet, but this can turn to be a very beneficial feature for brands and businesses.
